“Should I try semaglutide?” I thought. “What will people think? What if I have a bad reaction to semaglutide? These are all concerns I had while researching semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic, Wegovy, and similar medications.
I probably researched for about six months before deciding that I wanted to try semaglutide for weight loss. I looked up risk factors, the science behind how semaglutide worked, and semaglutide before and after stories. I meet the criteria for obesity, and over the past several years, all of my attempts to try to lose weight to prevent diabetes and prediabetes fell short. I had done Weight Watchers, low-carb diets, worked with a personal trainer, and more, but I still wasn’t seeing the results I wanted.
Why I Tried Semaglutide For Weight Loss
I had gestational diabetes with my last two pregnancies, so I am aware that I have an elevated risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. It is estimated that of those with a history of gestational diabetes, about HALF go on to develop type 2 diabetes. Additionally, the American Diabetes Association states that the risk for women who have had gestational diabetes is nearly 10-fold risk for developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
So, health reasons were my number one priority for using semaglutide for weight loss, but of course as a woman dealing with body image issues, I was interested to see if I could also get back into some of my old clothes and get back to feeling like ME. I wasn’t looking for some magic drug to “make me skinny,” I just needed some help to get into a more comfortable spot mentally and physically.
Finding Semaglutide Weight Loss Near Me
During my research, I searched local facebook groups to see what people in my community recommended for semaglutide weight loss in my area. Over and over again, I saw people recommending InfusaLounge Wellness Spa and talking about their results. There were such a large variety of people giving positive reviews and feedback, that I decided to reach out to InfusLounge Wellness Spa and give them a try. What is the Process For Starting Semaglutide?
After going to InfusaLounge and discussing my goals, I set up a telehealth consultation with one of their licensed medical professionals. We discussed my health history, family history, current medications, allergies, and more. I then received a prescription to start semaglutide injections. The process was simple and straightforward, and my anxiety about everything was quickly relieved.
Then it was time to receive my first injection. We decided to do the injection in my belly. The area was cleaned, and the injection was administered in a matter of seconds. I barely felt it! The needle is really small.
What is Semaglutide Really Like?
After I received my first injection, I started experiencing nausea the same day, which continued for several days. I was also given a prescription for Zofran which was very effective in treating my symptoms. I also experienced diarrhea for several days. All in all, the first week wasn’t very pleasant. I did not have much desire to eat, but I made sure to have regular small meals and get plenty of protein to keep me going. I liked these protein shakes for mornings and in between meals. Many people have told me that FairLife protein shakes, which you can buy at Costco, are the best tasting kind.
All of this is more or less what I expected based on reviews from others who had also started semaglutide injections. Like many other medications, side effects typically fade with time.
In subsequent weeks, I did not experience the same intense side effects. I may have felt a little nausea here and there, but nothing like I did the first week. I didn’t need Zofran anymore and my other digestive issues returned to normal.
I continued going once a week to receive my semaglutide injection in-person, however you can also get your injections delivered to your door directly from the pharmacy!
Positive Side Effects From Semaglutide Injections
One thing I noticed within just a few days after starting semaglutide injections is that inflammation in my body went down dramatically. My hands, ankles, feet, and other parts of my body were suddenly smaller and did not get swollen after long days walking around or sitting at my desk working. This was one of the best side effects because it made me feel SO MUCH BETTER and more comfortable.
I also have noticed I have fewer cravings for certain types of foods, particularly sugar. I used to want sweets almost constantly, and now I can take them or leave them.
I do not think about food constantly. There is much less “food noise,” and I am able to focus on other things rather than wasting time and energy thinking about what I’m going to eat next.
Mostly, the biggest change is I get full faster than I did before. I eat until I am full and then I stop. Even if something is particularly delicious or one of my favorite foods, I do not binge like I did before. I really have never felt like this before, and it makes my life easier.
6 Weeks Checkup With Before and After
During the first six weeks of semaglutide injections at InfusaLounge Wellness Spa, I also worked on making healthier choices in my diet (but nothing extreme), working out once or twice a week with a kettlebell, and also worked on developing a more positive body image.
I took some progress pictures around the 6-week mark. At that point, I had lost 13 pounds and was feeling great, with more energy and a lot less inflammation throughout my body. I was less hungry, but still had plenty of desire to eat!
At first, I couldn’t tell much of a difference between the photos, but as I looked closer I definitely saw changes. Although visible changes are what progress is often measured by, ultimately it isn’t the most important thing. How I feel does. I was already noticing that it was easier to move around and be active, which is what I hoped for! However, seeing the results in photos does give me confidence.
2 Months Semaglutide Before and After
At the two-month mark of being on semaglutide, I was down 17 pounds and still feeling great. I was noticing changes in how my clothing fit and was able to fit into some outfits I hadn’t worn in a while. The outfits I had previously been wearing were looser, which made me feel more comfortable. I wasn’t constantly adjusting my clothing or worried about what I looked like which was nice. I could just BE.
Misconceptions about Semaglutide
One thing I have heard a lot is the accusation that people who take semaglutide for weight loss are “stealing it from diabetics.” While at times there is a shortage of the prescription Ozempic, that is not what people like me are using. The brand Ozempic is typically prescribed for diabetics, and Wegovy is typically prescribed for obesity and weight loss.
What InfusaLounge Wellness Spa and similar businesses actually use is a compounded version of these drugs. They partner with compound pharmacies who prepare the prescriptions with the active ingredient that is in drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy, which is semaglutide. Sometimes they also include vitamins in the compounded version. InfusaLounge utilizes Semaglutide with B12 and Tirzepatide with B6.
The Final Verdict
So far, this journey has been such a positive experience for me. I am really glad I took the leap and tried semaglutide. It has been a very useful tool to have in my toolbox to take control of my health and steer things in the direction I want. During this process, I turned 40 and I feel excited to see where the next decade takes me. Stay tuned for more!
