Every year I love choosing new Christmas books to add to our shelves. Some of our most loved Christmas books are the classic stories that I read as a child, and I want to share those Christmas traditions with my kids. We’ve also added some fun and silly books to our collection in recent years that make the holidays even more fun than they already are. This collection of Christmas stories are the ones our family comes back to again and again. I hope this list gives you some ideas of what might work for your family.

Some of our favorite Christmas books

1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

This traditional story is a must-read for us each holiday season. We love reading it before we watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas when it comes on TV. How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is a classic story that never gets old and my kids love hearing it.

2. Little Blue Truck’s Christmas

My kids have always loved Little Blue Truck’s Christmas. This board book comes with cute illustrations of the little blue truck delivering Christmas trees around town. There is a simple but fun light-up surprise at the end that delights my kids every time.

3. Llama Llama Holiday Drama

We love the Llama llama series! Each book has a different theme/story line that focuses on a struggle or challenge that Llama llama faces and how to overcome it in a positive way. It doesn’t whitewash difficult emotions, but rather walks the children through them to find a resolution. Llama Llama Holiday Drama adds a fun Christmas/holiday twist to the series that we enjoy.

4. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: A Very Merry Christmas

This is a long-time loved book in our house. This board book plays music that goes along with each page. It’s a simple book, but I cannot tell you how many times my kids have played these songs and just LOVED it (which may or may not be a good thing depending on how much repetition you can stand). You can find Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: A Very Merry Christmas; Includes Sounds and Songs (Play-a-sound) on Amazon or your local store.

5. Christmas Stories

This book has it all in one small package! This compilation of Christmas stories contains traditional stories, poems, and Christmas hymns and song lyrics for you and your children to enjoy together. It also has explanations for how Christmas is celebrated in different countries around the world and their traditions. The Christmas Stories book begins with the reason for the season–the beautiful nativity story–and is followed by beloved stories such as St. Nicholas in ‘Twas the night before Christmas, The Nutcracker, A Christmas Carol, and The Legend of the Poinsettia. I love that there is a good mix of serious and fun stories and it’s a wonderful value for all you get. If you can’t find Christmas Stories on Amazon, you might be able to find it on eBay here or here. Don’t forget to use eBates if you buy from ebay to get cash back.
