Why You Should Take Your Next Girls’ Trip to Denver

I have some amazing friends that I try to meet up with every year for a girls’ trip. We all live in different states, so picking the location for our weekend is a big deal. This past summer we decided to go to Denver. I wasn’t sure exactly what Denver had to offer during the summer. I usually think of it more as a winter destination. I ended up being pleasantly surprised at how beautiful, clean, and fun the Denver metro area was! We found out that Denver really is the perfect place for a girls’ trip because there is great weather, great shopping, and great food! Here are a few of the things that made our trip great.

Things To Do

There are so many different ways you could plan a girls’ trip here. Our favorite thing was how “walkable” the metro area was. We could set aside time just to explore and see what we would find. There are so many awesome places to shop and eat, which we definitely did! Here are a few other things we loved.

Go to a Rockies Game

It had been a long time since I had been to a baseball game.  The Rockies did not disappoint!  The atmosphere in the stadium was great and Coors Field had some great food options.  The fruit & chocolate kabobs were a hit.  This was a great activity because we could still chat and relax while the game was going on.

Very sunny outside, but the weather is much nicer than where I’m from because there’s no humidity?

Shop at the 16th Street Mall

We made our way to the 16th Street Mall after the game. This is an outdoor mall with shops and restaurants on each side of 16th street. It is lined with large trees and goes on for miles! What’s neat is that the “street” (which is actually closed to cars) has free buses that can take you up and down the blocks to whatever part of the mall you like. You can cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. There were pop-up shops in the median of 16th street with even more things to look at. The area is actually quite beautiful and we got to see some really neat historic buildings along the way.

We had so much fun at IT’SUGAR candy store. We saw things we used to love when we were kids that you rarely see anymore!

Tour the Molly Brown Museum

I didn’t know this was here until the end of our trip, and so we actually were not able to get tickets to tour the museum.  You have to go early in the morning to purchase a ticket to come back later that day.  So you can’t just show up and see very much.  I definitely want to make sure we are able to do the tour next time I go to Denver!  There is a gift shop that you can browse in the carriage house and a small exhibit in the basement which anyone can go to and see a short film about the Browns and also about the Titanic. We had fun seeing the exhibit!

Visit the Colorado State Capitol

We weren’t able to go inside the state capitol due to time constraints, but it is very neat looking and in my opinion a must-see! There is a marker on the steps with the official elevation of “one mile above sea level.” The gilded roof is quite a sight, and the surrounding historical buildings are beautiful. We enjoyed wandering from the Molly Brown House towards the Capitol and back and taking in the scenery.

Places to Eat

There are so many great places to eat in Denver. These are the ones we loved the most.

Steuben’s

If you’re looking for comfort food, Steuben’s is your spot. This was probably my favorite place that we ate. The food was just.so.good. I’m drooling just thinking about it! I got fried chicken with came with a yummy biscuit and we all shared the loaded mac and cheese. I would highly recommend eating here!

Cherry Cricket

The burgers here were delicious! I was excited because they served coke products here and I hadn’t seen them at all of the places we visited. We all shared some queso which also really hit the spot! This was a really cute casual restaurant with a lot of local flair.

Bonnie Brae Ice Cream

This is another local favorite that we had to try. Not only was the ice cream great, but there was a lot of seating outside where lots of people were enjoying some lovely weather. It’s the perfect way to end your day!

Parting Thoughts

Denver during the warmer months is great. We had fun activities and yummy food, and the best part was that you could walk to so many places. Denver has one of the nicest and well-maintained downtown areas I’ve ever been to. You really felt like you could explore anywhere and everywhere. Denver was such an amazing place to visit and I hope to go back someday and see more. Scroll down to see a map of the places we shared in this post!
