Everyone has a place in this life, whether they believe it or not. A few weeks ago, I was able to internalize that concept in a way I hadn’t done before. It was extremely touching to be able to connect with other women and mothers and realize we have so much in common with each other as fellow humans on this Earth. I really believe we are more alike than different. Here’s why.
I’m tired. But the good kind of tired.
I just got back home from a retreat for Her View From Home writers in Nebraska. I knew it would be great, but it was even more than I knew I needed.
Last night we were going around and sharing thoughts from the weekend. So many women shared the insecurities they had before arriving and it was astounding to see how universal that was.
Writers that are so MUCH more established than me and that I thought were amazing still had their own “stuff.” The details of each person’s struggle varied, but one thing was the same: the beautiful complexity of the human experience.
Pain? We all feel it.
Joy? We all want it.
Belonging? We all crave it.
Love? We all need it.
The stories told were deeply touching because they were shared with such raw vulnerability. Tears flowed with such force that even those with the hardest exteriors could not hold back.
Because when it comes down to it, we are more the same than we are different.
We are mothers.
We are women.
We are children of God.
We have value, purpose, and meaning.
And…whether we believe it or not, WE BELONG. 
This goes for everyone, not just those who were in Nebraska this weekend.
We ALL belong to God and we belong to each other, and nothing can change that. There’s nothing you need to do or say to become worthy of belonging because you already do. (Read some books by Brené Brown for more on that subject).
So if no one has told you this recently, I am telling you now: you belong. You belong here, today, in this moment.
And that’s the truth.
